Perceptions
You see who you wanna see
But you don't see me
Mainly because I don't see me
Don't know who I am or what I want
If I knew would you see me
in a different light?

Your perception of me
is hindering my perception of me

You think I'm the one who doesn't smoke
or drink
But what if I am?
What would you think?
And why do I care?

Your perception of me
is hindering my perception of me

But...what is my perception of me?
Who
Am
I?
Other than your daughter, your sister, your aunt
Who am I other than who you perceive me to be?
I am your perception of me.
And...I don't wanna be
But...how can I not be?

Your perception of me
is hindering my perception of me.

Free
Once a prisoner of my past
Unable to get over the hurt done by your sorry ass
Scared to enjoy my life and all that it has in store for me
Afraid that the next man will also hurt me
BUT...NO...MORE!
Freedom finally rang
Loud and true
Finally getting me past the likes of you
Opening my heart to a love that was meant to be
Meant...to..be...for...me
Free to accept and be accepted
Love and be loved
And not worry about being abandoned or rejected
I...AM...FREE...TO...BE...ME!

Hopefully, this poem will be featured in my first novel.  It is based on a character's experience with love.
